A 22-day-old female baby was brought to the KD Hospital Emergency Department with abnormal breathing, swollen body and a distended abdomen. She had gasping breaths & so was intubated right away and put on a ventilator. She was admitted under the care of Dr Snehal Patel, Consultant Neonatologist and Pediatric Intensivist.
She had multiple abscesses which were drained but found to be deep. Later, on investigation, she was diagnosed with osteomyelitis and septic arthritis. Paediatric Orthopedic Reference was done and these abscesses were opened up and debridement along with arthrotomy was done. Ultimately, the patient's condition along with the septic parameters was improved, resulting in a positive outcome for her health and her parents expressed heartfelt gratitude as well.
